Is Someone Looking Over Your Shoulder?
Ever get that uneasy feeling when you’re working in a coffee shop, airport, or even on the train… like someone’s watching your screen?
It’s not just paranoia — it’s a genuine privacy risk. Sensitive emails, confidential client data, or even just your personal information could all be exposed in seconds.
But Microsoft may soon have an answer.
A new Windows 11 feature, Onlooker Detection, is being tested right now. As the name suggests, it’s designed to spot when someone is trying to glance at your screen — and alert you instantly.
Here’s how it works:
-
Presence Sensing (already in Windows 11) – Your device can detect when you step away, automatically locking or dimming your screen.
-
Onlooker Detection (coming soon) – Takes it further. If someone tries to peek, your laptop can warn you or dim the display to make it unreadable.
Of course, this only works on laptops with the right hardware — a presence sensor (sometimes called Human Presence Detection). Many newer business-class devices from Dell, Lenovo, and HP already include this technology.
👉 If you’re unsure whether your laptop is compatible, you can check under:
Settings > System > Power & battery.
While Microsoft hasn’t given a release date yet, the feature is already showing up in preview builds — meaning it’s likely on the horizon.
And it couldn’t come at a better time. With data privacy and compliance more important than ever, tools like this help reduce risks in everyday situations.
At Deycom, we believe security doesn’t stop at firewalls and antivirus. Even simple things — like who’s glancing at your screen — can put your business at risk.
Would this feature give you peace of mind when working in public?
